Horse racing videos on the internet make a nice pass-time to watch. Some, however, like to look at these videos to further their research in the field. These could be gamblers looking to better understand the horses they want to bet on. Or even jockeys looking to find out more about their competition.
Regardless of the reason, we’ve made a list of the most popular places on YouTube where you can find horse racing videos. These videos all include commentary, and some channels also provide post match coverage. But first, let’s look at a brief history of horse racing:
Horse Racing – a Brief History
Horse racing is one of the most exciting sports involving horses. Whether you’re a jockey, a gambler, or a simple onlooker, you cannot deny this simple fact. However much there may be controversy around this type of sport, it still remains one of the most popular and ancient sports man – and horse – have ever practiced.
Provided it’s a race that has been going on since the literal dawn of time, it’s only natural that there would be variation within the specificities of this sport. This also comes from the fact that there is no governing body that regulates these races on a worldwide level. Instead, each end every community is free to establish its own rules to the game.
Throughout the years, this has meant the splitting of the sport into four subcategories: the first is flat racing, the second is jump racing, the third is harness racing, and the fourth endurance racing.
Flat racing represents the typical type of horse racing, where horses run down a track of a straight or oval shape. Needless to say, this is the most common type of racing.
Jump racing, given its name, is the same type of race, with added obstacles over which horses are supposed to jump. Harness racing is when horses are pulling a small cart, or sulky, containing the driver. Lastly, endurance racing is the marathon of horse racing, where horses have to go distances between 25 and 100 miles.

Horse racing has many thrills and shocks – but by far the most exciting is the gambling game.
One of the biggest parts of horse racing today is, of course, gambling. According to the wiki, back in 2008, the horse race gambling market generated a worth of about 115 billion US dollars. Whether you want to gamble or want to watch just for fun, horse racing videos on the internet have become extremely entertaining to watch, as they offer bite-sized entertainment content with a style of commentary that literally has you at the edge of your seat.
The New York Racing Association, Inc.
The New York Racing Association is the biggest association in the NY state having to do with horse racing. Despite it being the regulator of the three largest tracks in the area, it does not govern over the racing activities in New York.
The major regulator and governing body that watches over all horse racing within the state of New York is the New York State Racing and Wagering Board.
After the corporation’s successful emergence out of bankruptcy in 2008, the then company and non-profit became incorporated. At the same time, it appears, they started their YouTube channel. This channel appears to have been a complete success.
Today, the NYRA, Inc. YouTube channel has only 7,620 subscribers, yet it also has 7.7 million views. Besides the actual races, their official channel at youtube.com/user/NYRAvideo also uploads post and pre match interviews with gamblers, jockeys and other people involved with the races.
You can check out the channel here. If you’re too lazy, here’s a video of American Pharoah winning the Triple Crown. This video shows just how professionally made their videos are:
Racing UK & Racing UK – International Horse Racing Videos
Horse racing in the UK has an extremely long tradition. However, this little company was started only in 2004. It is the leading channel that delivers horse racing videos to the TV screens of the people of the UK. However, feeling the reach potential in online video, Racing UK started two YouTube channels at a two year distance – 2008 and 2010.
The first channel, simply called Racing UK (which might be just a little misleading) shows some of the best videos of horse racing throughout the UK. It also has some of the best commentators doing the live coverage.
The second channel, called Racing UK – International, shows horse racing video materials from around the globe. This means that it also shows some of the most exciting ones from the US.
Together, these two channels have almost 14 million views on their videos, as well as 1.576 videos, and about 15 thousand subscribers. You can find the channels here and here. Unfortunately, we can’t give you a sample video, since embedding was restricted by the management.

Who do you think won between these tough looking horses.
‘Horse Racing’ Horse Racing Videos
That may sound tautological, but that is actually the name of the YouTube channel with the most single subscriber and views in horse racing. Started back in January, 2007, we don’t seem to actually know much about the Horse Racing YouTube channel. There is no description of the channel, and if you click about, you will be greeted by a few boring numbers attesting their supremacy.
Still, if you, at any time, choose to Google search or surf YouTube for horse race video clips, this channel is bound to be the very first that pops up. Although the legitimacy of its materials could be criticized, nobody has laid copyright claim over the videos as of yet.
And, thus, sits the uncrowned champion of YouTube horse racing videos. With 11 million views and 13.5 thousand subscribers, it beats any other single channel having to do with horse racing. You may say that Racing UK has more in both those numbers, but be reminded that those are two separate channels, and many of those subscribers may be shared.
If you’re not convinced, check out for yourself. Here is their channel page. As always, below is also a sample video. The best thing about this channel, is that it also has uploaded a few documentaries on legendary winners of past horse racing championships.
